An Outline of the Royal Feline Time

Attention astrologers — please use your own local coordinates to locate this new Moon.
Whenever astrologers talk about new moon cycles we are meditating on communicating times and cycles of birth and rebirth. As you may have heard me mention a few times previously, Leo is all about the heart; in chakra terms it’s called the Green Center. Also the French mention a change of heart, while in English we say change of mind.
A new Moon occurs every 28 days. There are between 12 and 13 new moon cycles every year. This one is in the fixed and very fiery sign of Leo. All fixed signs occur in the middle of the season, and they are about continuity. They fix that season’s themes.
It’s very fashionable in astrology, just now, to don the cloak of psychology. Psychology is the bastard young child of astrology. So people who read this, respond both out of their experience in life, and the writer’s skills. The reason this new moon is of vital importance concerns the matters at heart — there’s a saying in music that goes something like, “if it comes from the heart it goes to the heart.” This is the essence of the blues and Motown. Music can bypass the mind and a heart becomes the target, we weep or laugh because the music moves us.
I’m always in favor of school and education, though I lack any formal credentials. Having said that, please allow me to introduce to you one of the ugliest phrases that ever poison young minds about words, language, and poetry: “What was the poet trying to say?”
A poem is about how it feels. Here is an example of an untitled poem by Leonard Cohen;
I did not know until you walked away
That you have the perfect heart shaped ass
Forgive me for not falling in love
with your face or your conversation.
(This poem is a confession.) Courage my love. That is the heart of Leo, the green heart. Why? The sign of Leo is about the noble lion facing the increasing darkness, as night begins to eat the day. The longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, is the first day of the sign of Cancer, approximately June 21. The longest day of the year lasts one day. The following day begins our long days journey into night.
So during this new moon in the next 14 to 28 days, it is good to meditate on, as the poet Milton would have it, how your light is spent. He was going blind when he wrote this poem called “When I Consider How My Light is Spent.”
So, during this time you might want to reflect on what courage means to you. I would prefer to think that it does not mean allowing toxic conditions to continue. What courage means to me is finding some heart humor in spite of any physical pain I’m experiencing. This has nothing to do with Schadenfreude -i.e. pleasure derived by someone, from another person’s misfortune.
As I was working out thematic material to express the best use of this and any new Moon, I came across a stunning example of heart Leo and courage — this article is parallel to my themes presented here — although it does not mention astrology.
